ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to a pipe joint locking ring and groove arrangement. A female pipe joint end has a circular groove and a rectangular circular groove in its expanded inner periphery, and a mating male pipe joint end has a tapered insertion edge and a circular groove in its outer periphery. The side wall of the groove nearest the pipe end is perpendicular to the pipe axis, the opposite side wall is tapered. A packing seal is disposed in the groove, and a continuous, relatively rigid locking ring of synthetic resin is disposed in the groove and snap fitted into the groove during assembly. The ring may have a bevelled lip, stepped inner and outer peripheries, or axial grooves or holes therethrough.
