A pipeline pig for detecting an obstruction in a pipeline and a method of use of the same. A first step involves providing a pipeline pig which carries an impression substrate and a contact sensor. A second step involves passing the pipeline pig along a pipeline. The contact sensor emits a signal should an internal obstruction be encountered. The obstruction leaves an impression upon the impression substrate that is indicative of the size and circumferential positioning of the obstruction.
