ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A piston assembly comprises a piston head adapted for reciprocating movement in a cylinder and a connecting rod for connecting the piston head to a crankshaft. The connecting rod has a big end for pivotal attachment to the crankshaft and a little end for attachment to the piston head. A coupling unit pivotally attaches the little end to the piston head while ensuring lateral displacement of the pivot point in the same direction as the lateral movement of the connecting rod during rotation of the crankshaft. In this way the angular displacement of the connecting rod is reduced during the crankshaft cycle and the efficiency of the engine is improved.
