PHN 12.734 26-02-1989 ABSTRACT: Piston engine. A piston engine comprising a piston (5) movable in a reciprocating manner in a cylinder (3), while during operation a wedge-shaped gap (43) is present between piston and cylinder. The piston (5) divides the cylinder (3) into a first chamber (39) and a second chamber (41), which communicate with each other through the gap (43). A stable central position of the piston (5) is obtained by means of the wedge-shaped gap (43), which mainly determines a pressure difference between the first chamber (39) and the second chamber (41). A particular application of the piston engine is a cryo-cooler, by means of which, for example, processors of computers are cooled.
