PISTON PIN WITH REINFORCING INSERT Abstract of the Disclosure A piston assembly includes a piston with a cross bore for receiving a hollow wrist pin which pivotally couples the piston to a connecting rod with a hollow end. Ceramic inserts with a coefficient of expansion equal to that of the wrist pin are press-fitted into the hollow wrist pin to prevent bending and ovality of the wrist pin. The inserts include apertures or passages for allowing the escape of heated and pressurized gasses from the interior of the wrist pin between the inserts.
