ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus to permit a gas to be fed from a header to a chamber adjacent the header. The apparatus has a pipe extending through the header. There is an inlet for the pipe in the header and an outlet for the pipe in the chamber. A piston is positioned within the pipe and is reciprocable between a first position where it closes the inlet and a second position where the inlet is unobstructed. The apparatus includes a device to move the piston between the first and second positions. The apparatus gives good transfer of steam and effective control of the steam along the apparatus.
