ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of manufacturing a piston for an internal combustion engine in which a cast-in insert comprising a combustion chamber lip and a piston ring carrier joined by radial limbs is secured against loosening in service by spraying metal or cermet into a peripheral groove partially in the ring carrier and partially in the piston body a band firmly bonded to the carrier and the body. The carrier may be castellated to interlock with the piston material.
