ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides an improved load retaining member for use with vehicles, the retaining member being rotatably journalled in a bearing located proximate a side of the vehicle chassis, the bearing being tilted out- wardly with respect to a perpendicular line to the plane of the chassis, and the member having a generally crank shape such that the retaining member will assume a maximum spaced apart position with respect to the chassis of the vehicle under the influence of gravity. The retaining member over- comes problems associated with prior art rigid retaining members which were subject to breakage when struck by objects - the present member is able to rotate inwardly.
