Abstract The entrance way of a passenger rail vehicle has at its lower end a pivotable structure which carries on one side a sectional floor surface, and on the other side a step arrangement. Normally the sectional floor surface is at the same level as the floor surface of the passenger car. However when it is desired to provide access to the car from a low level boarding platform, the structure is pivoted through 180° so that the steps thereon are extended outwardly and downwardly from the car.
