A laser imager comprises a modulator with an array of electrodes to control picture elements individually or by groups to produce images on a recording plane. The light intensity of each picture element or group of elements is determined by electrical potential applied between sets of controlling electrodes. These levels can be manually set or automatically exercised during a balancing routine through a feed-back loop using a photodetector to monitor and detect elements producing a light intensity higher than a set value. Control means assign to these elements a "correction voltage" to lower the density of elements they control. These correction values obtained after one or repeated balancing routines are stored in a memory and are used during the imaging cycle to produce images of substantially equal intensity on the recording medium. Different electrode arrangements to control the intensity of picture elements can be applied to different kinds of modulators and for different power levels of radiated energy.
Dans cette invention, un imageur laser comprend un modulateur présentant un réseau d'électrodes permettant de commander individuellement ou en groupe des éléments d'image pour reproduire des images sur un plan d'enregistrement. L'intensité lumineuse de chaque élément d'image, ou groupe d'éléments, est déterminée par le potentiel électrique appliqué entre des groupes d'électrodes de commande. Ces niveaux peuvent être manuellement réglés ou automatiquement exercés au cours d'une routine d'équilibrage, au moyen d'une boucle de réaction utilisant un photodétecteur pour surveiller et détecter des éléments produisant une intensité lumineuse supérieure à une valeur prédéterminée. Des moyens de commande attribuent à ces éléments une "tension de correction" pour réduire la densité des éléments qu'ils commandent. Ces valeurs de correction obtenues après une ou plusieurs routines d'équilibrage répétées sont contenues dans une mémoire et utilisées pendant le cycle d'imagerie pour produire des images d'intensité sensiblement égale sur le support d'enregistrement. En l'occurrence, on peut appliquer différentes dispositions d'électrodes, permettant de commander l'intensité des éléments d'image, à différents types de modulateurs et pour des niveaux variés d'énergie rayonnée.
