A metal element with a planar surface is described. The planar surface comprises a first and a second side region connected by a central region. An aperature is formed in the surface by folding sections formed in the central region. The sections in the central region each comprise a first and second outwardly disposed part section connected by a central part section. The outwardly disposed part sections are folded over the respective central part sections, forming the aperture. The sections of the central region may be formed by cutting different patterns into a material web, and the metal element formed by folding the sections and rolling the folded metal element through a roll apparatus.
