PCO-181.01 IN THE CANADIAN PATENT OFFICE OFFER OF DISCLOSURE FOR PUBLIC DISSEMINATION BY PATENT (Application for Patent) Inventor: Anthony T. Logus Owner: Pettibone Corporation Title: Planetary Wheel-Drive with Accessible Dry-Disc Braking, Air-Cooled ABSTRACT In a planetary wheel-drive, disc braking is provided with the discs located outwardly of the gearing so as to be readily accessible for servicing; as in patent 1049423 (U.S. 4010830). The discs are dry, being air-cooled by air pumped through the braking chamber by the rotating hub parts, peripheral portions of which are formed as an impeller. Internal parts, rotating at higher speed, cause a turbulent circulation of air to draw heat from the discs, some of which are provided with heat dissipating fins. Air is carried through or adjacent to other discs.
