This invention relates to isolated nucleic acid fragments encoding a carbohydrate biosynthetic enzyme, selected from plant 1,3-beta-D-glucan synthases or brittle-1 proteins. The invention also relates to the construction of a chimeric gene encoding all or a portion of the carbohydrate biosynthetic enzyme, in sense or antisense orientation, wherein expression of the chimeric gene results in production of altered levels of the carbohydrate biosynthetic enzyme in a transformed host cell.
La présente invention concerne un fragment d'acide nucléique isolé codant une enzyme biosynthétique à glucide sélectionné parmi des 1,3-bêta-D-glucane synthases végétales ou des protéines du gène "Brittle-1". Cette invention concerne également la formation d'un gène chimère codant totalement ou partiellement l'enzyme biosynthétique glucide, dans une orientation sens ou antisens, l'expression du gène chimère entraînant la production de niveaux modifiés d'enzyme biosynthétique à glucide dans une cellule hôte transformée.
