It is found that a transformed plant having a .gamma.-glutamylcysteine synthetase gene introduced therein is increased in at least one of the number of flowers and the number of seeds compared to its wild-type one and is therefore increased in the yield of seeds. Based on this finding, it is possible to elucidate the function of a product of a plant-derived .gamma.-glutamylcysteine synthetase gene and to provide a technique for producing a plant having increased yield of seeds.
