The present invention relates generally to the field of molecular biology and concerns a method for improving plant growth characteristics relative to corresponding wild type plants. More specifically, the present invention concerns a method for improving plant growth characteristics comprising modulating expression in a plant of a nucleic acid encoding a class I homeodomain leucine zipper (HDZip) hox5 polypeptide or a homologue thereof; or comprising modulating expression in a plant of a nucleic acid encoding a nitrate transporter protein (NRT) or a homologue thereof; or comprising modulating expression in a plant of a nucleic acid encoding a polypeptide denoted Yield Enhancing Protein 16 (referred to as YEP16); or comprising modulating expression in a plant of a Group I glycogen synthase kinase (Group I shaggy-like kinase) or a homologue thereof. The present invention also concerns plants having modulated expression of a nucleic acid encoding a class I homeodomain leucine zipper (HDZip) hox5 polypeptide or a homologue thereof; or having modulated expression of a nucleic acid encoding a nitrate transporter protein (NRT) or a homologue thereof; or having modulated expression of a nucleic acid encoding a polypeptide denoted Yield Enhancing Protein 16 (hereinafter referred to as YEP16); or having modulated expression of a Group I glycogen synthase kinase (Group I shaggy-like kinase) or a homologue thereof, which plants have improved growth characteristics relative to corresponding wild type plants. The invention also provides constructs useful in the methods of the invention.
La présente invention concerne globalement le domaine de la biologie moléculaire et un procédé d'amélioration des caractéristiques de croissance des végétaux par rapport aux végétaux correspondants de type sauvage. De manière plus spécifique, cette invention concerne un procédé d'amélioration des caractéristiques de végétaux qui consiste à moduler l'expression dans un végétal, d'un acide nucléique codant un polypeptide hox5 de glissière à leucine d'homéodomaine de classe I (HDZip) ou un homologue de ce dernier; ou qui consiste à moduler l'expression dans un végétal, d'un acide nucléique codant une protéine de transport de nitrate (NRT) ou un homologue de cette dernière; ou qui consiste à moduler l'expression dans un végétal, d'un acide nucléique codant un polypeptide appelé protéine d'amélioration du rendement 16 (dénommée YEP16); ou qui consiste à moduler l'expression dans un végétal d'une glycogène synthase kinase du groupe I (kinase pelucheuse du groupe I) ou d'un homologue de cette dernière. La présente invention concerne également des végétaux présentant une expression modulée d'un acide nucléique codant un polypeptide hox5 de glissière à leucine d'homéodomaine de classe I (HDZip) ou un homologue de ce dernier; ou présentant une expression modulée d'un acide nucléique codant une protéine de transport de nitrate (NRT) ou un homologue de cette dernière; ou présentant une expression modulée d'un acide nucléique codant un polypeptide appelé protéine d'amélioration du rendement 16 (dénommée YEP16); ou présentant une expression modulée de la glycogène synthase kinase du groupe I (kinase pelucheuse du groupe I) ou d'un homologue de cette dernière. Ces végétaux présentent des caractéristiques de croissance améliorées par rapport aux végétaux correspondants de type sauvage. Cette invention concerne également des constructions utiles dans les procédés selon l'invention.
