ABSTRACT An electrode assembly for a plasma arc torch including an electrode holder in the form of a hollow tubular electrically conductive element with one end closed by a wall having a substantially flat interior surface which is exposed to the flow of coolant and an exterior surface having a cavity in which is fitted an electrode disc made of an electrically conductive refractory material e.g. tungsten, the electrode disc having an arc attachment surface which is positioned a predetermined distance from the interior surface of the bottom wall to provide a thermal path which will allow for optimum transfer of heat through the electrode disc and to the coolant.
