Apparatus (10) for coating a surface of an article (14) with a thin film polymer layer by plasma deposition, the apparatus comprising: a plurality of processing chambers (12a, 12b, 12c.... 12n) into each of which one or more articles can be placed; means (18, 19, 20, 21, 22) for supplying an active species to said processing chambers for forming a plasma in said chambers; a plurality of induction means (24) associated with respective processing chambers, each induction means being operable to induce an electrical field internally of an associated processing chamber for forming a plasma when said active species is supplied thereto so that a surface of said article can be coated with a thin film polymer layer by plasma deposition; means (26) for providing a time varying electric current in the induction means; and pressure control means (28) for selectively controlling pressure in said processing chambers such that pressure in any one or more of said chambers can be controlled independently of pressure in other of said chambers.
L'invention concerne un appareil (10) conçu pour revêtir une surface d'un article (14) d'une fine couche de film polymère par dépôt par plasma, l'appareil comprenant plusieurs chambres de traitement (12a, 12b, 12c,..., 12n) et un ou plusieurs articles peuvent être placés dans chacune d'elles; des moyens (18, 19, 20, 21, 22) pour fournir une espèce active auxdites chambres de traitement pour former un plasma dans ces chambres; plusieurs moyens d'induction (24) associés aux chambres de traitement correspondantes, chacun pouvant fonctionner de manière à induire un champ électrique à l'intérieur d'une chambre de traitement associée pour former un plasma lorsque ladite espèce active lui est fournie, ainsi, une surface dudit article peut être revêtue d'une fine couche de film polymère par dépôt par plasma; des moyens (26) pour produire un courant électrique à variation temporelle dans le moyen d'induction; et des moyens de commande de pression (28) pour réguler de manière sélective la pression dans lesdites chambres de traitement de façon que la pression dans ces chambres soit régulée indépendamment de la pression dans les autres chambres.
