ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for preparing a blood platelet preparation capable of long term storage for administration to animals and humans, which comprises centrifuging platelet-rich plasma to obtain a platelet pellet, removing supernatant plasma, and resuspending and storing the platelet pellet in a storage medium consisting essentially of a balanced, physiologically compatible saline solution, which may optionally contain an anticoagulant. The blood platelet preparations obtained are also within the scope of this invention and can be maintained in the various storage mediums for at least 72 hours.
