The invention provides a plasma spray apparatus for spraying powdery or gaseous material. The apparatus comprises an indirect plasmatron for creating an elongated plasma torch. The powdery or gaseous material is axially fed into the plasma torch. The plasmatron comprises a cathode assembly, an annular anode member located distantly from the cathode assembly and a plasma channel extending from the cathode assembly to the anode member. The plasma channel is delimited by the annular anode member as well as by a plurality of annular neutrode members which are electrically insulated from each other. The plasma channel has a zone with a reduced diameter located in that region of the plasma torch which is near to the cathode assembly and, thereby, there is formed a plasma channel inlet nozzle. The cathode assembly comprises a central insulating member arranged in a fixed position with regard to the plasma channel inlet nozzle and further comprises a plurality of cathode elements embedded in the insulating member. The cathode elements are located and evenly distributed along the periphery of a circle around a central axis of the apparatus and extend parallel to said central axis. Each of the cathode elements comprise a cathode pin having an active end on which the plasma torch is created and which extends out of the insulating member into the plasma channel inlet nozzle. The means for axially feeding the powdery or gaseous material into the plasma torch comprises a supply - 30 - tube for the supply of spray material into the plasma channel inlet nozzle, the supply tube being located coaxially to the central axis of the apparatus and being fixed in the central insulating member.
L'invention porte sur un appareil de jet de plasma pour pulvériser une matière poudreuse ou gazeuse. L'appareil comporte un plasmatron indirect lui permettant de créer une torche à plasma allongée, dans laquelle la matière poudreuse ou gazeuse est alimentée axialement. Le plasmatron comprend un ensemble cathode, une anode annulaire placée loin de l'ensemble cathode et un canal à plasma se prolongeant de l'ensemble cathode jusqu'à l'anode. Le canal à plasma est délimité par l'anode annulaire ainsi que par une série de neutrodes annulaires qui sont isolées de façon électrique les uns des autres. Il comporte une zone à diamètre réduit dans la partie de la torche qui est près de l'ensemble cathode. Un gicleur pour le canal à plasma y est donc formé. L'ensemble cathode comprend un élément central isolant placé dans une position fixe par rapport au gicleur du canal à plasma et comporte également une série d'éléments cathodiques noyés dans l'élément isolant. Les éléments cathodiques sont placés et distribués également le long de la périphérie d'un cercle autour d'un axe central de l'appareil et se prolongent parallèlement à l'axe central en question. Chacun des éléments cathodiques forme une tige cathodique présentant une extrémité active, sur laquelle la torche à plasma est créée, qui dépasse à l'extérieur de l'élément isolant jusque dans le gicleur du canal à plasma. L'alimentation axiale de la matière poudreuse ou gazeuse dans la torche à plasma se fait au moyen d'un tube d'alimentation qui sert à alimenter le gicleur du canal à plasma en matière à pulvériser, le tube étant coaxial à l'axe central de l'appareil et étant fixé dans l'élément isolant central.
