A plasma torch comprising an elongated electrically conductive nozzle with an internal, generally cylindrical chamber; an electrically conductive electrode with an elongated, cylindrical nose extending into the cylindrical chamber of the nozzle to define a relatively thin, elongated annular gas passage between the nozzle and the electrode nose, wherein the electrode includes a cylindrical portion above the nose, which portion has axially extending swirl grooves; and, a separate insulator sleeve engaging both the cylindrical portion and the nozzle for holding the electrode nose concentric with said cylindrical chamber of the nozzle. The nozzle includes means for venting a portion of said cooling gas from the relatively thin annular gas passage.
Un chalumeau au plasma comprenant une buse allongée conductrice d'électricité avec une chambre interne généralement cylindrique; une électrode conductrice d'électricité avec un nez cylindrique allongé s'étendant dans la chambre cylindrique de la buse pour définir un passage de gaz annulaire allongé et relativement étroit entre la buse et le nez de l'électrode, cette électrode comportant en amont du nez une partie cylindrique dotée de rainures hélicoïdales s'étendant axialement; et un manchon isolant distinct en contact avec la partie cylindrique et la buse pour maintenir le nez de l'électrode en concentricité avec ladite chambre cylindrique de la buse. La buse comprend un moyen pour évacuer une partie dudit gaz de refroidissement du passage de gaz annulaire relativement étroit.
