PLASMA TORCH HEIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM FOR UNDERWATER CUTTING The torch height control system includes a support structure adapted to be connected to a movable carriage of a cutting machine for directing the motion of the torch during a cutting operation, a probe extend- ing a predetermined distance in front of the torch relative to the metal workpiece to be cut, a slide assembly for permitting relative motion between the probe and the torch, a motorized drive assembly means for driving the torch and probe in unison relative to the workpiece, a control circuit for generating a first control signal when the probe strikes the metal work- piece and for generating a second control signal a predetermined time interval thereafter based upon relative movement between the probe and torch with the movement of the torch arrested in response to said control signals corresponding to a desired torch working height.
