A plastic bag with a resistant handle that is easy and inexpensive to manufacture, and methods of making such a bag. The bag has at an extremity a gusset and a band of plastic material is provided sealed along the bottom and the sides of the gusset, having an aperture to define a handle. In one embodiment, the side opposed the handle is open to fill the bag therethrough and the other sides are sealed. In another embodiment, one of the sides is open and the side opposed the handle has a second gusset therein. Advantageously, both embodiments may be made from a single sheet of plastic material.
