ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a system for protecting piles, a plastic sheet is closely wrapped around the pile with a lap, and a fusible strip extending along the lap is heated by a built in heating element so as to melt and flow, thus providing a seam both sealing the lap and securing the sheet around the pile. The system may be used both to apply coverings and to patch existing coverings. Preferably the fusible strip is formed by material surrounding an electrical heating wire. Apparatus is described for cinching and securing the sheet during fusion of the strip.
