ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A plate processing machine, e.g. a brake press or shearing machine, is provided with one or more of the following: a guide device which guides a ram in vertical operation and is easy to assemble and operate, means by which an extremely easy fine adjustment is obtained in the longitudinal direction of the ram. A back gauge device which buffers the shock when the trailing edge of the workpiece is reached and quickly returns to the base position after moving away from the workpiece, means by which the workpiece is noiselessly secured by pressure to the work table by means of a plate pressuring device.
