ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a soil compacting machine a plate vibrator for driving for- ward and in reverse in which the structural height has been reduced to a minimum by the location of the vibrating element and power unit in relation to each other on the bottom plate being so arranged that the drive shaft of the power unit and the eccentric shaft of the element are parallel and situated one behind the other in the direction of movement of the plate. Known adjusting mechanisms for changing the direction of movement of the plate vibrator are complicated, expensive and susceptible to damage in connection with hard usage on construction sites. The vibrator of the present invention substantially obviates these difficulties.
