Pleural Drainage System Abstract A system for draining pleural cavities. A container (10) having a plurality of cavities (70, 72, 74, 76) is employed with a vacuum source (58) and an inlet (52) from the patient. In the first cavity (26), a port (38) is defined to limit the liquid contained therein. This port opens into a second cavity (72, 74, 76) for collection of drained fluids. A vacuum regu- lator mechanism (92) is incorporated at one end of the container to prevent injury to the patient. Thus, a water seal is defined about the inlet tube (44). A separate cavity collects drained fluids and a third area provides vacuum control.
