A plexifilamentary fiber strand material is provided comprising a three- dimensional integral plexus of fibrous elements substantially aligned with the strand axis, in which the fibrous elements are each comprised of first, second and third synthetic, organic polymers. Preferably, the second and third polymers are each dispersed throughout the first polymer, and the first, second and third polymers each consist essentially of a polymer that in its molten state is immiscible in the molten state of either of the other two of the polymers. Each of the polymers comprises between 1 % and 98 % by weight of said fibrous elements. The polymers in the fibers are preferably selected from polyester, polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene vinyl alcohol, nylon, and copolymers of methacrylic acid.

Cette invention concerne un brin constitué de fibres plexiformes comportant un entrelacement intégral tridimensionnel d'éléments fibreux sensiblement alignés avec l'axe du brin, lesdits éléments fibreux étant chacun constitués d'un premier, d'un deuxième et d'un troisième polymère organique et synthétique. De préférence, les deuxième et troisième polymères sont dispersés au sein du premier polymère, et le premier, le deuxième et le troisième polymère sont, chacun, constitués principalement d'un polymère qui, à l'état fondu, n'est miscible ni à l'un ni à l'autre des deux autres polymères dans leur état fondu. Chacun de ces polymères comporte entre 1 % et 98 % en poids desdits éléments fibreux. Les polymères constituant ces fibres sont, de préférence, sélectionnés parmi le polyester, le polyéthylène, le polypropylène, l'alcool vinylique d'éthylène, le Nylon et des copolymères de l'acide méthacrylique.
