A pliable fishing lure component particularly suitable for placement upon a fish hook imparts increased attractiveness to fish and improves the ease and efficiency of assembly into a lure under field conditions. The pliable lure component includes: a head portion with a longitudinal bore extending distally within the head, a transition body attached to the distal end of the head, a tail protruding generally distally from the transition body. The tail includes complementary surfaces, for example such as those provided by a slit to form at least two tongues. The preformed bore and the split tail can be formed from the same or different plastisol mixtures. A method of slitting the tail, using a holder with a blade receptive slot is also disclosed.
