ABSTRACT The present invention constitutes a new and useful im- provement in a pliers-type hand tool wherein opposed jaws are spread apart for spreading or holding by engagement with internal surfaces thereof, objects such as chain links and snap rings. It is comprised of a pair of movable handles, a first handle having a first jaw which is rigidly attached thereto and being pivotally connected to a work element which is in turn pivotally connected to the second handle and has a second jaw operatively opposed to the first jaw. The invention also contains a toggle-type locking device which fixes the spatial relationship between the jaws when spread apart. The distance between the locked jaws can be varied using an adjustment screw threaded into the first handle. A re- lease lever pivotally connected to the second handle provides a fast and convenient mechanism For disengaging the locking device. The jaws can be of various types.
