ABSTRACT A plug and socket combination in which the plug is formed with circumferential contact rings with an exposed outer surface. The socket is formed with a cavity having inwardly projecting mating contact elements. Switching studs are provided so that the contact elements are not ener- gised until the plug is fully inserted into the socket.
