A plug flow process for the production of chlorine dioxide by reacting chloric acid and/or an alkali metal chlorate, optionally a mineral acid and a reducing agent in such propor- tions that chlorine dioxide is produced. Reactants are continu- ously fed to a plug flow reactor under conditions that chloride dioxide is produced as the reactants flow through the reactor. The process stream has an acidity between 2N and 11N. The process stream is subjected to superatmospheric pressure in the reactor sufficient to maintain the formed chlorine dioxide in solution. After removal of the chlorine dioxide from the process stream exiting the plug flow reactor, the process stream can optionally be fed to a second chlorine dioxide generator for further reaction.

Un procédé à écoulement piston pour la production de dioxyde de chlore par réaction d'acide chlorique et/ou d'un chlorate de métal alcalin, facultativement d'un acide minéral et un agent réducteur dans des proportions telles que du dioxyde de chlore soit produit. Les réactants sont introduits de manière continue dans le réacteur à écoulement piston dans des conditions permettant la production de dioxyde de chlore au fur et à mesure que les réactants traversent le réacteur. L'acidité dans le circuit varie entre 2N et 11N. On maintient dans le réacteur une pression supérieure à la pression atmosphérique permettant de garder le dioxyde de chlore formé en solution. Après récupération du dioxyde de chlore, le flux sortant du réacteur à écoulement piston peut être dirigé vers un second générateur de dioxyde de chlore pour y subir une réaction plus poussée.
