4855 ABSTRACT A plug receptacle electrical connector and a method of manufacturing such a connector. The receptacle connector comprises a moulded insulating cover which receives a moulded insulating base carrying electrical contacts for engaging contacts of a plug connector inserted into a cavity in the cover. To enable the connector to be mounted on a circuit board with the contacts connected to circuitry on the board, the contacts have lead portions which project beneath the base, the bottom of the cover being open to receive the lead portions. Rails on the base, which engage in grooves in the cover, being provided on the sides of the base and having thereon latches for engaging shoulders defined by the grooves. In the manufacture of the connector, the contacts are selectively plated with gold stripes for engagement by the contacts of the plug.
