A pneumatic cylinder provided with a damping device to decelerate the piston inside a piston chamber at an end of its working stroke, while reducing the impact forces. The damping device comprises a restricted flow path for the fluid and a closing member for an inlet-outlet port which is supported by a helical spring extending from one end of the piston; an open cavity at the front end of the piston is designed to receive the closing member and/or the helical spring during damping at the end of the working stroke. Axially extending guide means for the closing member are provided inside the piston chamber (11).
