ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A pneumatic flat pad is provided herein. It includes two opposed covers of flexible material which are spaced apart from each other and which are joined at their margins by a marginal joint so that the two covers and lateral marginal joint cooperate to form between them a hermetically sealed hollow space. A plurality of reinforcing sheets are embedded within the covers, each of the covers being reinforced by at least one such embedded sheet. An attachment is provided for connecting the hollow space to a source of compressed air. This attachment lies parallel to the covers and is lo- cated at one corner of the pneumatic flat pad and leads through the corner of the pad to the outside. This provides a more secure connection since the corners are not subject to deformation. At least one of the reinforcing sheets of one of the covers is embedded within, and extends through the lateral marginal joint of the pad to the other cover in which it is also embedded and within which it overlaps at least a portion of the of the reinforcing sheet of the other cover. In this way, the lateral marginal interconnecting edges are reinforced so that the lifting pneumatic pad so provided is much stronger and safer to use. The use of relatively large re- inforcing sheets which are roughly equivalent to the size of the pad also provides greater reinforcement. In addition, because the attachment lies parallel to the covers and is located at a corner, the pneumatic flat pad can be inserted through a narrow slot before inflation.
