-1- ABSTRACT Apparatus for effecting pressure engagement between a pair of nip roll members utilized for fixing toner images to copy substrates. The apparatus comprises a pneumatically displaceable diaphragm and load bar which cause pivoting of a pair of pivot arms which support one of the rolls for movement into and out of engagement with the other roll. A pair of compression springs inter- posed between the load bar and the pivot arms insure near constant loading notwithstanding air pressure fluc- tuations and/or roll dimension variations.
