A tuned mass damper (8) incorporating a container (12) with an inside surface (20), two end (14, 18, 20) portions and a mass (10) mounted for oscillation between the end portions (14, 18, 20) by a pair of bias springs (30, 34, 44), the two end portions being filled with a compressible gas to reduce the effects of temperature variations on the damping characteristics, to increase the damping with increased amplitude of oscillation of the mass (10) and to minimize size and weight of the damper (8).

La présente invention concerne un amortisseur à masse syntonisée comprenant un récipient avec une surface interne, deux extrémités et une masse montée de façon à produire une oscillation entre lesdites extrémités à l'aide d'une paire de ressorts de rappel, les deux extrémités étant remplies d'un gaz compressible de manière à réduire les effets des variations de température sur les caractéristiques d'amortissement, à augmenter l'amortissement par une amplitude accrue d'oscillation de la masse et à réduire la taille et le poids de l'amortisseur.
