A novel instrument (10) for automatic sampling or percutaneous removal of tissue from a patient is disclosed. In one embodiment the instrument (10) comprises a housing (20), a stylet (23), and a cannula (28) for excising tissue from a target site within a patient's body extending from the housing (20); means for impelling (26) the stylet (23) and the cannula (28) into a target tissue site in response to an impelling force wherein the impelling means (26) is contained within the housing (20) and is in fluid communication with a source of compressed fluid; and wherein fluid from the source of compressed fluid provides the impelling force.

Nouvel instrument (10) servant à effectuer l'échantillonnage automatique ou le prélèvement percutané de tissu sur un patient. Dans un mode de réalisation, l'instrument (10) est composé d'un boîtier (20), d'un stylet (23) et d'une canule (28) servant à exciser le tissu depuis un emplacement ciblé à l'intérieur du corps du patient et s'étendant depuis le boîtier (20); des moyens servant à exercer une impulsion (26) sur le stylet (23) et sur la canule (28) afin de les pousser vers l'intérieur de l'emplacement du tissu ciblé en réaction à une force d'impulsion, lesdits moyens d'impulsion (26) étant contenus à l'intérieur du boîtier (20) et en communication fluide avec une source de fluide comprimé; le fluide provenant de la source de fluide comprimé produisant la force d'impulsion.
