A pneumatically controlled load compensating brake system for a wheel truck (21) is provided. The wheel truck includes a bolster (23) resiliently supported on a pair of side frames (25, 27) mounted on a spaced pair of axles (31, 33) having wheels at each end. The brake system includes a pair of brake beams (51, 57) extending across the wheel truck adjacent the axles with brake shoes at each end for engaging the wheels. An expandable pneumatic means (63) is supported on the bolster (23) and is inter-connected to the brake beams (51, 57) by a multiple lever system (77, 81, 93). The lever system is operable to move the beams relative to each other to press the brake shoes against the wheels upon pressurization of the expandable pneumatic means (63) by an empty and load valve (132). The empty and load valve (132) senses a change in load on the bolster (23) and is operable to change pressure to the pneumatic means (63) in response thereto.

La présente invention a trait à un système de freinage proportionnel à la charge à commande pneumatique pour un essieu (21). L'essieu comporte une traverse (23) à support élastique sur une paire de châssis latéraux (25, 27) montés sur une paire d'essieux espacés (31, 33) comprenant des roues à chaque extrémité. Le système de freinage comporte une paire de poutres-freins (51, 57) s'étendant sur l'essieu adjacentes aux essieux avec des sabots de frein à chaque extrémité pour l'engagement des roues. Un moyen pneumatique expansible (63) est supporté sur la traverse (23) et est interconnecté aux poutres-freins (51, 57) par un système à leviers multiples (77, 81, 93).
