POLARIZED OR POSITION-ORIENTED LAMP BASE AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING SAME ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A polarized lamp base including a shell having a threaded outer surface is disclosed. A locating pin has an end tack welded to the imperforate crest of the thread on the shell and a solder fillet fills the space side thereof. the pin can be affixed to the base at a predetermined position on the shell before the base is affixed to an outer envelope of a lamp. Alternatively, the base can first be assembled to the outer envelope of a lamp in which case the lamp is held in a predetermined rotational position relative to the orientation of an arc tube in the envelope. An end of a locating pin is then brought into contact with the imperforate crest of the thread on the shell of the base, the pin is tack welded at the point of contact between the end of the pin and the crest of the thread, and a solder fillet is then formed around the pin and between the end of the pin and the crest.
