Abstract of the Disclosure A pole climbing aid is disclosed which comprises a bidirectional line clamp adapted to be attached to a body belt worn about the waist of a climber, a first safety line adapted to form a bight extending in front of the climber, one end of the safety line being adjustably held in the line clamp. A second safety line of relatively stiff but flexible material is adapted to be coiled helically about the pole to be climbed, the ends of the second line being attached to the bight to hold the climber to the pole.
