X-5920A Abstract Pollen formation in cereal grain plants can be inhibited by application of novel 4-carboxy(or deriv- ative)-1-aryl-5-pyrazolecarboxamide. Production of hybrid seed is facilitated by use of the compounds of the formula (I): Image (I) wherein R, R1 and R2 independently represent halo, C1-C4 alkoxy, C1-C4 alkyl or hydrogen, provided that at least one of R, R1 and R2 represents hydrogen, and further provided that R2 may represent a group other than hydrogen only when one of R and R1, but not both, represents a group other than hydrogen; R3 represents hydroxy, C1-C4 alkoxy, C2-C4 alkenyloxy or a phyto- logically-acceptable moiety forming a salt of the carboxylic acid.
