POLLUTANT ADSORPTION METHOD AND APPARATUS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method and apparatus for the removal of pollu- tants from flue gas includes a first adsorber spaced apart from a second adsorber and a flue gas cooling unit located intermediate the two adsorbers. Flue gas is passed through the first adsorber at a preferred temperature range for the efficient adsorption of sulfur trioxide, is cooled by the cooling unit, and is passed through the second adsorber unit at a preferred temperature range for the efficient adsorption of sulfur dioxide and the oxides of nitrogen. By efficiently removing sulfur trioxide in a first adsorber the acid dew point of the flue gas is lowered to a tempera- ture below the preferred temperature range for the efficient adsorption of the sulfur dioxide and the oxides of nitrogen. The threat of a corrosive acid attack is minimized while permitting the efficient adsorption of the sulfur dioxide and the oxides of nitrogen.
