POLLUTION CONTROL SYSTEM FOR COKE PRODUCING INSTALLATIONS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A pollutant collection and removal system is provided for use with a horizontally arranged battery of coke ovens. A receptacle having a coke entry opening is positioned in front of the coke guide and receives the total coke pushed from an oven and a hood carried by the support for the coke guide substantially encloses the coke guide and overlies the coke entry opening and enshrouds the discharged coke and pollutants generated during the coke pushing operation. The coke is distri- buted within the receptacle for quenching and, after the pushing operation, the receptacle is moved from the coke guide and transported to a quenching station. The recep- tacle is continuously subjected to a source of suction to move atmospheric air into and from the oven being pushed and into the hood and the receptacle and to con- tinuously withdraw from the receptacle pollutants moved and discharged into the hood during the pushing operation and pollutants generated from the hot coke contained within the receptacle. The withdrawn pollutants are removed from the carrier air which is then discharged to the atmosphere. The system is readily adaptable for use with existing coking installations.
