POLLUTION-FREE CATIONIZATION OF STARCH Abstract of the Disclosure Cationic starch is prepared by an essentially pollution-free method wherein starch of a maximum moisture content is sprayed with a catalyst- reagent mixture of an epoxide etherifying reagent and alkali catalyst prepared immediately before the spraying and the sprayed starch is reacted under substantially dry alkaline reaction conditions. The resultant cationic starches find particular use in papermaking applications.
