ABSTRACT Improved poloxamer gel systems wherein by control of the concentration of selected primary poloxamer gelling agents, alone or in combination with compatible polymeric gel modifiers, it is possible to provide transition between liquid and gel states at controlled temperatures above about 26°C, and within the general range of about 26-75°C. Preferred systems for applica- tion to body surfaces and cavities are those non-toxic composi- tions which are liquid at acceptable application temperature below about 26°C but gel at temperatures intermediate between such ambient temperatures, and body temperature and which can withstand substantial dilution, as by mingling with body fluids, without loss of gel characteristics at body temperature.
