POLY(ALKYLENETRIMELLITATE IMIDES) AND METHOD OF PREPARATION ABSTRACT Poly(alkylenetrimellitate imide) having an inherent viscosity (I.V.) of at least 0.3 dl/g at 25°C and 0.5% w/v 60/40 w/w phenol/1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane suitable for forming self-supporting films, coatings and molded objects. The polymer can be produced by melt polymerizing an N-hydroxyalkyl trimellitic acid imide under melt polymerization conditions in the presence of a tin, antimony or titanate catalyst.
