ABSTRACT Disclosed is an aromatic polyamide having specific intrinsic viscosity which comprises dicarboxylic acid recurring units and diamine recurring units. The dicar- boxylic acid recurring units comprise specific amount of terephthalic acid recurring units and specific amount of aliphatic dicarboxylic acid recurring units, and the diamine recurring units comprises aliphatic alkylenediamine recurring units and/or alicyclic alkylenediamine recurring units. Also disclosed is other aromatic polyamide having specific intrinsic viscosity which comprises dicarboxylic acid recurring units and diamine recurring units. In this case, the dicarboxylic acid recurring units comprise specific amount of terephthalic acid recurring units and specific amount of aliphatic dicarboxylic acid recurring units having 4 - 12 carbon atoms, and the diamine recurring units comprise straight-chain aliphatic alkylenediamine recurring units having 6 - 18 carbon atoms. Further, polyamide resin compositions containing the above aromatic polyamides are also disclosed.
