ABSTRACT A moulding composition based on a thermoplastic polyamide contains red phosphorus and magnesium carbonate for flame retardancy with a good electrical tracking resistance. The composition can also include reinforcing fibres. The amounts of red phosphorus and magnesium carbonate may be 5 to 15 per cent by weight and 5 to 50 per cent by weight of the composition respectively, their combined total being not more than 55 per cent by weight of the composition. The amounts of red phosphorus and magnesium carbonate are such that 3P + C ? 30 where P is per cent by weight red phosphorus and C is per cent by weight magnesium carbonate in the total composition.
