ABSTRACT The in vivo properties of an aliphatic poly- amide, thermally formed, surgical device are improved by heating the device to a temperature of from about 60°C. to 100°C. in an environment essentially saturated with moisture for a period of time sufficient to increase the alpha- crystallinity of the device to at least 15%. The resultant new product comprises a thermally formed aliphatic poly- amide surgical device which has an ?-crystallinity of at least 15% and a total crystallinity in excess of 25%. The new surgical devices of the invention have improved flexi- bility or toughness and functional integrity.
