A novel process makes it possible to epoxidize .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated enones or .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated sulphones in the presence of a water-soluble base, of an oxidant, of water, of an organic solvent which is immiscible or has only limited miscibility with water, of a preactivated diastereomer- and enantiomer-enriched homo-polyamino acid as catalyst, and a specific phase-transfer catalyst as cocatalyst with high conversions and enantiomeric excesses.
